We’ve been making this magical podcast about friendship, family, and adventure for seven years now, and naturally we’re celebrating it by having everyone fight! (See: News & Neat Stuff)
Which makes me wonder; of the two main adults in Hereafter, who would win in a fight, and why?
New Episodes
The silly Adventure starring Necromon and Rasputin might be Hereafter’s most emotional so far, and that makes me so incredibly proud.
News & Neat Stuff
Hey, you know those America’s Quest Kitchen recipes you like so much? Some of them were written by the talented Maya Essien, our intern!
IT’S TIME FOR A 7-YEAR RUMBLE!!! At 8PM CT on Wednesday, September 25th, thirty-two Quest Friends! characters will enter the ring… but only one will emerge victorious. Follow us on twitch.tv/questfriends to be notified as soon as the stream goes live.
Patreon Highlight
Every time I create an original song for Quest Friends!, I upload it as a free post on our Patreon. And you know: autotune might get a bad rap, but without it this song would’ve been unlistenable.
Necromonicon Entry: Fusion
What’s better than one Necromon? Two Necromon! And what’s better than two Necromon? One Necromon… made out of those two Necromon.
Necromon fusion is extremely rare. Across all of recorded history, only a handful of trainers have intentionally invoked fusion, and while it’s likely Necromon fusion has occurred in the wild, no one’s knowingly seen it occur - they’ve just run across a fusion Necromon without realizing it.
Necromon fuse through the bonds they share with each other, akin to the soul bonds they make with humans. It’s unclear if this bond forms the consciousness of the fusion Mon, or if both Mon work together from within the shared body, each retaining their original consciousness.
Fused Necromon possess any shared elements between their constituent Mon, as well as one unique element from each Mon.
In shipping (pairing two fictional characters together romantically), the two characters’ names are often fused together, sometimes with cute additions. For example, fans of a romance between Sera and Hopper might call that relationship “Triserahops.” Unfortunately, this is also how fusion Mon gain their names, and the association of “fused names” with “soul bonds” means that shipping wars are MUCH more intense in the world of Hereafter.
Kyle’s Corner: The Lasting Legacy of Lazy Characters
Some characters require a lot of introspection, creativity, and redesign. Others are just hastily slapped together from a few silly ideas or movies I like. And it’s not always easy to tell the difference. Here are the origins of some of my favorite Quest Friends! NPCs.
Flashback Future
The Nano Spirits: Tom mentions that he’s “communing with the spirits” as a joke, I get confused and take it literally.
Everett: Let’s just make a moody teen for a silly one-off adventure. Oh, and he has exclamation point hair because he’s a quest-bearing NPC.
Vera Layeni: Doomfist is pretty cool. And his goals are the same as the Jagged Dream!
Mako: A copy of one of Hallie’s old PCs, who was a copy of Varrick from The Legend of Korra… also named Varrick.
Soe Badge: Hahaha let’s give Elee a secret child to mess with Emily.
Lorraine Stiles: Shiny feels like it’d be the theme song of Hopper’s antithesis. And since he’s based on Ben Wyatt, let’s base her look off of Leslie Knope. Oops how did this trauma spill in there?
L’Adrien: What if Hawk Moth was a teen?
Hereafter
Chazz Casey: Hallie literally just asked me to make Present Mic, and I made him a cowboy because Hallie likes cowboys.
Elliot Hawthorne: I have an opportunity to make the world’s worst man. I’m taking it.
Lucas Bang: During a game of Channel A, Hallie made up a show starring the Aggressive Bandit. The tagline? “Oh boy, he’s real aggressive!”
Oset Scuba: Based on Hallie’s Dread PC based on Seto Kaiba.
Sammy Ester: Based on Emily’s Dread PC based on Sam Winchester (from Season 1 specifically).
Ronda Lite: Let’s make phantom thief Ron DeLite an actual phantom.
Eddie: You literally heard me make him up on the spot in The Necromon Thief.
Seth Keyhole: A character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses named Seteth keeps casually requesting things.
