I love Christmas. And of the many reasons to love this season, three come to mind:
Time with friends and family.
Sweets that are way too sweet.
Thoughtful gifts.
And since Hallie hasn’t finished her recipe for December, I decided to give my good friend the gift of bailing her out and writing a recipe of my own.*
*um ACTUALLY see my recipe at the end :)
Reese’s In Pieces
By: Kyle
When figuring out which food to adapt, I looked at the three reasons in the intro paragraph, and from there decided to land on a meal that (1) was sweet, and (2) could be made and enjoyed with the lil’ ones.

Alright. So, here’s what we’ve got. Sparky can’t find her Peanut Butter Cups which I want to tentatively call Reese’s In Pieces.Hallie

Sparky’s car can’t go in reverse. Quique has a phantom parking ticket. Or, Sparky’s coffee machine is broken.
Once I landed on Reese’s in Pieces, I then had to figure out what the recipe was actually going to be. I thought it’d be fun to combine the idea of a peanut butter ball with dirt cups (since you’re usually buried six feet under when you’re resting in peace), and instead of making an actual candy outside (which is way too hard), I decided to simply coat with chocolate instead. Did you know that Reese’s Pieces don’t actually have chocolate?
So I gathered my ingredients and got to work.

The first step was to grab 12 mini cups and chop them up. I chose the mini cups because it’s a lot easier for a kid (and, to be honest, for me) to count 12 cups rather than a specific amount of peanut butter. Once I had the cups, I made sure to use a butter knife to cut them up, since I’m not trusting any kid with a knife sharper than that.
Once the cups were chopped up, I mashed them into 8 balls and sent them on a trip into the freezer.
The peanut butter balls held! Now comes the part that will require a lot of parental supervision - melting the chocolate. I set up a double broiler and put in 3 out of my 4 chocolate bars (which ended up being twice as much as I needed).

While the chocolate melted, I got to the fun part: MASHING THE OREOS.
Once the bars had fully melted, I took the bowl off the heat and mixed in the final bar, before dipping the peanut butter balls in the chocolate and coating with the Oreo dust. I know you’re supposed to do this at a specific temperature, but where’s the fun in that?
Back into the freezer my children go, while I attend the ballet like a refined adult.
Once I got back, I took the finished dirt balls out of the freezer and gave them a taste! And they tasted… exactly like a regular Reese’s Cup. Which I consider a success. The point behind this recipe wasn’t to be revolutionary (I specifically avoided ingredients that would change the flavor, like gummies), it was to be a fun little activity you can do with your children, nieces/nephews, and little siblings. And I think it was a full success on that front!

*EXTRA HOLIDAYS! IT’S CAPRI FUN
Happy holiday season. I (Hallie) made Capri Fun to get you through it.
Get yourself a Capri Sun variety pack, a bottle of vodka, and a bottle of amaretto. Then cut open your Capri Sun packets with some scissors and pour them into a nice wine/drink glass like a classy adult.
Pictured above: Half a Fruit Punch Capri Sun with one shot of amaretto (left) and one shot of vodka (right). Vodka bad. Amaretto surprisingly good.
Pictured above: Half a Strawberry Kiwi Capri Sun with a shot of amaretto (left) and a shot of vodka (right). Once more, amaretto is superior. Vodka bad.
I was running out of matching glasses.
Pictured above: Half a Pacific Cooler Capri Sun with a shot of amaretto (left) and a shot of vodka (right). Vodka drink was sad. Like the Ghost of Christmas Past with nothing to say. Imagine drinking that song from A Muppet Christmas Carol that nobody likes. The sad one.
Amaretto good. :)
Happy uh. Happy holidays. It’s a miracle I remembered which picture was which. One shot (1.5 oz) of straight liquor in each of these drinks might be too much. I’ve had so much. I did this for you.
